Commonwealth Business Counsel, PLLC (“CBC”) is a Massachusetts law firm that serves as outside legal counsel to growing businesses. The firm focuses on employment law and HR compliance, along with commercial contracts, business formation and counsel. Its clients are typically companies that have outgrown handling legal issues on their own but aren’t ready to hire a full-time in-house lawyer.
The firm helps employers handle the issues that come up as a team grows: hiring and terminations, employee handbooks and policies, wage-and-hour compliance, independent-contractor classification, leave, separation agreements, and responses to agency charges and demand letters. On the business side, it drafts and negotiates customer, vendor, and service agreements, and forms and structures new entities. Clients can work with the firm on a flat-fee monthly plan, which gives them ongoing access to counsel without hourly billing, or on a fixed-fee basis for projects such as employment compliance audits.
Founded by attorney Nico Pingaro, the firm grew out of his experience on the inside of businesses. Nico spent most of his career as in-house counsel at national and multinational companies, handling labor and employment, litigation, real estate, franchising, and commercial contracts. Before that, he practiced as a litigation associate, served in the public sector, and clerked at the appellate level. He also holds an MBA with a concentration in accounting, so he approaches legal issues with an eye on the business and its bottom line.
The firm’s goal is simple: give business owners practical, responsive legal advice – at predictable costs – before small problems become expensive ones.
