Chamber member Ed Lambert of the Massachusetts Business Alliance for Education (MBAE), along with Superintendent of Salem Public Schools, Stephen Zrike, authored a recently-published column in the Boston Globe, making the case that the state must act with urgency to create a new high school graduation standard.
Lambert and Zrike argue that Massachusetts must bring stakeholders together to identify the knowledge, skills, and competencies all students need to be successful and to create a standard that measures and incentivizes acquisition of those attributes. A strong academic foundation must be required for every student.
MBAE is committed to being a leading voice on this important issue. Defining what a high school diploma should stand for and what students must know and be able to do to earn one, is a critical and foundational issue that has an enormous impact on the region’s entire K12 education system and talent pipeline.
