Hosted by the wonderfully engaging Michelle Kempskie of Michelle Kempskie Consulting, our latest THRIVE Lunch & Learn Seminar focused on Emotions at Work, diving into the intricacies of how emotions really can and do set the tone in a work setting. This interactive workshop emphasized the significance of understanding and managing emotions effectively in professional settings.
Kempskie underscored how emotional intelligence, comprising self-awareness, self-regulation, empathy, and social skills can profoundly impact teamwork, leadership and overall organizational success. She reminded us that emotions are inevitably behind everything we do, at the core of our behavior, and that recognizing and acknowledging them can only work to our benefit. The simple task of keeping an open dialogue and getting on the same page with other employees goes such a long way. When asked how to navigate conflict and high emotions in the workplace, Kempskie stated, “You can’t ever lose with curiosity.” Focusing on asking “What” questions instead of “Why” questions can help foster a more inviting and cohesive environment.
Key takeaways included the importance of fostering a culture of psychological safety, promoting open communication and implementing strategies that prioritize employee well-being. Attendees left empowered with actionable insights to navigate workplace challenges with emotional intelligence on the forefront, ultimately driving greater cohesion and performance within their organizations.
