The 80th Anniversary of D-Day Committee is planning a special day of commemoration on Saturday, June 8, in Ipswich to honor WWI veterans and all veterans who served – past and present. The day will include a parade featuring multiple bands, classic cars, and a working WWII Sherman tank and halftrack provided by the American Heritage Museum in Hudson, along with a pedestrian block party on Market Street.
The committee, comprised of local veterans’ groups, police and fire departments, and business and civic organizations, is holding multiple fundraising events with all proceeds helping to fund the parade. Tickets for both events are $30 and children under 12 are free. Tickets may be purchased in advance by using Eventbrite or at the door at the event.
Sunday, May 19, 5 p.m. — Concert at Castle Hill on the Crane Estate featuring Cape Ann the Big Band and the Northshoremen’s Chorus. Gates open at 4 p.m. and beverages will be for sale on-site.
Thursday, June 6, 7:30 p.m. — Concert at the Dolan Performing Arts Center, Ipswich High School, featuring the North Shore Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Robert Lehmann. The musical presentations selected by Director Lehmann will include arrangements by John Williams (“Hymn To The Fallen”) and John Philip Sousa (“Liberty Bell March” and “The Stars and Stripes Forever”). The evening will be filled with patriotic music to show respect and honor to all who participated in the D-Day Invasion on Normandy, France beaches and all those who served during WWII.
