Wed., Nov. 5 at 7:30am
Economic & Public Policy Breakfast Forum at
The Hawthorne Hotel

"Congressman Tierney's Green Job Act and Presidential Race - Election Recap "

rooseveltThe North Shore Chamber of Commerce Economic & Public Policy Breakfast Forum on Wednesday, November 5 at the Hawthorne Hotel in Salem will feature a talk by Congressman John Tierney on the Green Jobs Act (2007) and a Post-Election Recap the day after the Presidential Election.

The Green Jobs Act would authorize up to $125 million in funding to establish national and state job training programs for about 35,000 U.S. workers. These jobs training would help to address the shortages in green industries such as solar panel installation, building weatherization, and wind turbine maintenance.

The 2008 election is particularly notable because it is the first time in U.S. history that two sitting senators will run against each other for president. With African American candidate Barack Obama, who is of mixed African and Caucasian parentage, as the Democratic Party nominee for President and John McCain's selection of female Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as the Republican Party nominee for Vice-President, the eventual winning ticket is very likely to have a historic context.

The 2008 election also marks the first time since the 1928 election in which neither an incumbent President nor an incumbent Vice President ran for their party's nomination in the presidential election.
